Risk Audits
Although ARM (Availability, Reliability & Maintainability) and Safety Assessments are necessary in
designing safe and reliable systems, it is equally
important to operate and manage systems safely using
competent staff and well written procedures.
Risk Audits help companies to check that all of the
ingredients for a safe and reliable system are in place
and to highlight opportunities for improvement.
Egerton Consulting has experience both of carrying out
Risk Audits and of designing Risk Audit checks and
procedures to aid in-house audit teams.
Example:
Contamination Risk Assessments
Client: Water Service Northern Ireland (through
Ferguson McIlveen)
Following a cryptosporidium outbreak in Spring 2001,
Water Service undertook to carry out operational audits
on all of their water treatment facilities to reduce the
risk of further outbreaks.
Egerton Consulting worked with Ferguson McIlveen to
develop and demonstrate a procedure to:
 |
Identify points where
contamination might occur; |
 |
Prioritise potential
flashpoints; |
 |
Identify remedial actions
to reduce risks effectively; |
 |
Prioritise those actions
for the most rapid and cost-effective risk
management strategy. |
A software tool previously developed by us for the
identification and prioritisation of risks within water
treatment was central to this work.
