Availability, Reliability
and Maintainability (ARM) Studies
ARM Assessments identify areas of a design that are
over or under-designed, allowing designers to strengthen
the design where necessary or to make economic
savings by scaling back in areas that are overly robust.
ARM studies also investigate maintainability issues to
identify the access and resource requirements that will
allow component reliabilities to be maintained
throughout the life of the equipment.
We have over 15 years’ experience offering ARM services,
both in support of competitive tenders and during
detailed design following contract award.
Example:
ARM Assessment of a Fire
Service Management System
Client: Thales UK
Egerton Consulting was appointed to carry out
an ARM assessment of the Thales FiReControl design
tender.
The assessment provided assurance that the majority of
the design elements would meet the availability targets
proposed but highlighted one area where the target would
not be met and identified what improvements would be
required to achieve the target.
This information allowed Thales to go into subsequent
discussions with their client (the ODPM) with a better
understanding of the costs of meeting ALL targets. It
also gave them a basis for negotiating target changes
which they were confident could be met cost-effectively.
Thales were subsequently selected as joint suppliers of
FiReControl.
